Waar staan de enige twee oorspronkelijke hallenkerken in Nederland?
De Martinuskerk is een laat-gotische hallenkerk. Dat is bijzonder. In Nederland is maar één andere, oorspronkelijk ontworpen hallenkerk en dat is de Sint Michaelkerk in Zwolle. Er zijn wel andere hallenkerken in Nederland, maar dat zijn later verbouwde basilieken.
Bij een hallenkerk zijn het middenschip en de beide zijbeuken even breed en even hoog. Door grote ramen in de zijwanden en de grote open ruimte maakt de kerk een bijzondere lichte indruk.

The Martinus Church is a late Gothic hall church. That is unusual. There is only one other originally designed hall church in the Netherlands, and that is the Sint Michaelkerk in Zwolle. There are other hall churches in the Netherlands, but they are basilicas that were converted at a later stage.
In a hall church, the nave and both aisles are of equal width and height. Due to large windows in the side walls and the large open space, the church makes an especially light impression.
